Stan Drew - the inventor of golf

Let us celebrate Stan Drew. He was of course the inventor of golf and many people take a pilgrimage to the museum in Fife that commemorates him: ‘Stan Drew’s Home of Golf’. It tells the story of how this holy man took the Word of Golf all around the world. To mark this, civil servants in Scotland have recently been given a holiday called ‘Stan Drew’s Day’.

Stan Drew also has a castle
So important is this individual that he may well become a saint. There are already lots of these religious figures in Scotland story. Some examples include the famous St Obo, whose healing powers meant he became the patron saint of Scottish health farms. Then there is St Ockbridge, who was a terribly middle-class saint in Edinburgh but did a nice line in delicatessens. While St Affa became a saint associated with small Scottish islands, the followers of St Enness gave him a standing stones as his own symbol. In addition, the supporters of lowly football teams pray to St Enhousemuir, while the followers of St Onehaven whirl balls of fire round their heads every Hogmanay.
Today St Rachur and St Ronachlachar are twin saints invoked to test whether people have authentic Scottish accents, while St Umble and St Agger are associated with the consumption of too much whisky (as indeed is St Ramash and St Ooshie).
Must stop now. My spell-checker just exploded. OK, except for the handful of mystified potential visitors from overseas, by now you must have got the idea ….now make up your own. I used to play this game in the car with the children. All things considered, they've turned out surprisingly normal really.
